New-client calls answered when your team can't get to the phone.
IntakeHour sets up and runs an AI intake line for small law firms. When your line is busy, after hours or on weekends, it answers, asks your intake questions, books a consultation on your calendar, and sends your team a summary. If a caller asks for a person, it says how and when they will reach one.
For solo and small firms. We do the setup and the monthly tuning, so your staff doesn't have to.
The first call often goes nowhere
In Clio's 2024 secret-shopper study, a research firm posed as a prospective client and contacted 500 U.S. law firms by phone and email.
The same report found that three in five prospective clients would only use a chatbot if they could switch to a human when needed. That is why IntakeHour is built around a clear handoff, not a wall.

How it works
We map your intake
One call with you: practice areas, the cases you take and don't, the questions you ask, the names you need for a conflict check, and who gets which kind of call.
We build and test it
We write the script, connect your calendar, and run test calls. You listen to them and approve the wording before anything goes live.
It covers the gaps
You keep your number. Calls forward to IntakeHour only when you're busy, after hours, or on the days you choose. Web-form inquiries can get a reply within minutes too.
We tune it monthly
We read the transcripts, fix anything it got wrong, and send a short report: calls handled, consultations booked, and calls handed to your team.
Guardrails, in plain words
What it does
- Tells callers it is an automated assistant for your firm
- Asks only the intake questions you approved
- Offers consultation times only from your real calendar
- Texts or emails a summary to the person you name
- Plays a recording notice where you choose to record
What it won't do
- Give legal advice or predict outcomes
- Agree to represent anyone or quote fees you haven't approved
- Keep a caller who asks for a person stuck in a loop
- Make outbound sales calls
The ABA's Formal Opinion 512 (PDF) says lawyers who use generative AI must protect client information and supervise the tools they use. We give you the script, the list of providers that handle call data, and their data terms before you sign, so you can make that call. Your firm stays responsible for its ethics duties; we are not a law firm and don't give legal advice.

Questions
Will callers know they're talking to an AI?
Yes. It says so at the start of every call.
What happens if a caller asks for a person?
It follows your rules: transfer to a number you choose during set hours, or take a message flagged urgent and tell the caller when to expect a call back.
Does it work with my case management software?
It can send summaries by email or text to anyone. Where your software supports it, such as through an integration or an intake form, we can send the details straight in. We confirm this on the first call.
Do you record calls?
Only if you want recordings. Some states require every party to agree to a recording, so when recording is on, the line plays a notice first.
Can it take calls in Spanish?
We can set up English and Spanish. We test both with you before go-live.
